Siddha Pimputkar

Siddha's research focuses on improving bulk single crystal growth of Gallium Nitride (GaN) using the ammonothermal method. This method, which is similar to the hydrothermal method used to grow quartz and ZnO, entails filling in a vessel GaN source and seed material along with ammonia. Upon heating the vessel to ~600C and 2,000 - 4,000atm pressure, the ammonia becomes supercritical and can transport GaN from the source to the seed resulting in the growth of a single crystal. His research pays particular attention to understanding the growth environment and improving both growth rate and quality of the resulting crystals.
