Congratulations to Professor Claude Weisbuch, winner of the science applications medal from the Academy of Sciences!

Body

We are honored to highlight the work of Claude Weisbuch, emeritus research director at the CNRS, at the Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory, at the École Polytechnique, and distinguished professor at the Materials Department, University of California at Santa Barbara (USA).

He worked on the optical properties of semiconductors and their applications. He then turned to the manipulation of photons, discovering in 1991 the strong photon-matter interaction between semiconductors and photons from optical microcavities. In 2002, he founded Genewave, a company carrying out molecular diagnostics by fluorescence and using his work on the extraction of light in LEDs. Since 2003, he has studied fundamental phenomena in semiconductors of the nitride family.

Congratulations to Claude Weisbuch for this prestigious distinction which highlights his commitment and essential contributions to scientific research!
